The Lowdown

(Taken from the back of the book)

This is a world divided by blood - Red or Silver

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to seventeen-year-old Mare, a Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

But Mare possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of her potential, the silvers hide Mare in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess. Knowing that one false move will mean her death, Mare must use her new position to bring down the regime - from the inside.

Now Mare has entered a game of betrayal and lies.

This is Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart...

Love or Hate

Before starting this book, i just thought it was one of those books that are really terrible but have all this mega hype behind it to make people interested in throwing away their money to get their hands on a copy. Even as i started the book i was still skeptical that it would draw me in and keep me interested since i was in a reading slump anyway. It took all the crazy drama and the out of the blue twists near the end to get me hooked and wanting more. There was enough of the book that i was sucked into and absolutely loved so it was easy for me to give 5 stars.

The Main Characters
In the fairy tales, the poor girl smiles when she becomes a princess. Right now, i don't know if i'll ever smile again.
Mare is the poor girl with Red blood and Cal is the boy with Silver blood that is at the top of the royal food chain - as he is the next in line to become King. She makes her living as a pickpocket and one day picks the wrong pocket, or tries to anyway. Then in comes Cal on his white stead ready to save the damsel in distress who's been caught lol well that's similar to what happened. So he gets her a job working in the palace so she can stop stealing and do something that will bring a regular pay cheque  (check if your american) for her family.

The Romance
I've turned him into a monster. I forced his hand. I made him choose. I was eager, I was stupid. I let myself hope.
You would think it was a fairy tale and the happily ever after is about to come into play since theyre around each other everyday now, right? Well ofcourse that's not how it ends. What King that enslaves people of another race, due to the color of their blood, will willingly allow his son who is ultimately going to be the next King marry or even date a girl from that said race that he looks down on. The romance was doomed before it even started and by the end there was soo many lies and betrayal involved that it would be hard to get back from.

My Hopes and Dreams for the Next Book
The hurt i see radiating from him is enough to break my heart. He is tired. He is broken. And he doesn't want to fight anymore. Part of me doesn't either.
I'm hoping that Mare and Cal can work through their trust issues and get the relationship to where it was and built it from there. And work together with the others to find Maven. I'm hoping they don't enslave Cal since they know how that feels themselves. I feel Maven is going to give them a run for their money and definitely not make anything easy for them. He doesn't seem like a villain since his character seems quite weak and like hes being controlled so maybe he'll change his ways lol that's a dream that most likely will never happen, hes going jealousy leading him. I'm team Cal obviously.

Would You Recommend

Recommend this book that i gave 5 stars to, well heck yaaass!!! Basically everyone that reads fantasy i'm hoping will fall in love with this also. Even if you've read this and feel just a like for this first book i'm sure you'll just keep loving the series as it goes on to each next book. I feel this series has potential to blow our minds completely by the third book.

"...we will rise up, Red as the dawn."
