The Lowdown (taken from back of book)
It's a night like any other on board the ICARUS. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendson survive. And they seem to be alone.
Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they're worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a torturous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.
Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other's arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder- would they be better off staying here forever?
Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won't be the same people who landed on it.
The first in a sweeping science fiction trilogy, These Broken Stars is a time-less love story about hope and survival in the face of unthinkable odds.

Favorite Line
"For a moment the image before us is frozen:our world, our lives, reduced to a handful of broken stars half lost in uncharted space. Then it's gone, the view swallowed by the hyperspace winds streaming past, blue-green auroras wiping the afterimages away. Until all that's left is us."
Love or Hate
I really enjoyed reading this romance story. I really wish i could've fallen in love with it though. But since i was suffering through a slump, enjoying any reading was difficult. I chose this as part of my book choices for the Booktube-a-thon tbr (aka to be read) list under my book with blue on the cover. Even though i was forcing myself to read this during my slump, i did realise that this was a very good book that i will reread when I'm finally out of this sucky slump.
The
Main Characters
The dynamics between the main characters, Lilac and Tarver, was actually quite beautiful. Lilac on the surface is the typical rich girl, looking down her nose at everyone as if they're beneath her. But as the story progresses you get to see under the surface and know her better and find out how conflicted and alone she really is. It helps you get to love her character.
Tarver is the Major in their planets army. He's strong, confident and shockingly the youngest person of his rank. He's the poor guy to her rich girl, among the people she has to look down on. We definitely get to see his charming and caring side as the story progresses. I loved how much they cared enough to look after each other through out their struggles on this unknown planet even though they were in denial about the individual feelings.
"I'm not even close to the type of girl he'd want, just as I've been signaling at every opportunity that he's the last man in the galaxy I'd want to touch."

The
Romance
As i said above there was a bit of feelings denial and constantly pushing each other away or hurting each other emotionally. Usually i would hate this back and forth in a story but because i got to know the characters and their reasoning whilst the story progressed, it was easy to look past that and enjoy their relationship once they got over their fears and came together. It was really inevitable that they would explore their feelings since they were constantly side by side tackling their time on the planet. The twists that happen for them was so unexpected and heartbreaking that i had to reread ever single one because i was that shocked/surprised about it but with how the story goes i could see how it was needed to make for a better ending and help for the build up in the story.
"For an instant i feel him reach for me, and all i want is to lean against him, let him wrap me up, keep me close. All i want is for no one to take him away."

My
Hopes and Dreams for the Next Book
The next book in the series is based on two different characters and is set on a planet called Avon. If it's anything like This Broken Stars then i already know i'll enjoy it and be swept into the story fro the very first page. Since the next story is not staying on the same characters Lilac and Tarver, i don't know what to expect but since its the same author's coming together again for this story, i expect to be blown away.
